thank you mr hare: maison martin margiela special edition london scarf

a big big shout out to mr hare! he dropped by my office today to pass me a very very special present: a football style scarf made specially for the opening of maison martin margiela's shop at bruton street back in december 2008. i don't think the scarf is for sale, but a special gift for invited guests like mr hare himself! a few emails later, mr hare sourced another one from the very kind people at margiela, and passed it to me! the scarf's amazing, i really like it! thank you mr hare!

trying it on straight after i got home from work!

it was quite a surprise as i did not expect mr hare to drop off the parcel himself. it was a great pleasure meeting him and we had a brief chat about his upcoming shoe line. it will be stocked at when the fall winter 2009 collection rolls in! i can't wait!

more about margiela: the old shop at the very offbeat and obscure bruton lane (despite only being... 30secs from hermes at new bond street?):

i really like that shop, the off white painted furnishings and wooden stairs, it is absolutely charming. i think there were structural problems with that building (rumeurs?), so they've now moved a few doors down to bruton street:

the decor is a stark contrast to the usual off white and almost artisanal store concept they adopt for most of their stores. lots of mirrors and reflective surfaces, and the store stretches all the way in one floor, with menswear at the rear. now neighbours with stella mccartney, celine and DVF on the same street, but still maintaining it's somewhat anonymity without big signboards, and actually situated at the rather non bustling end, away from the chi chi crowds of new bond street, and nearer to berkeley square, one of my all time favourite mini park.

maison martin margiela is at 22 bruton street, london W1 J6Q

many thanks to the very kind people at maison martin margiela, and a great big thank you to mr hare!

happy fridays!

  1. beautiful scarf and congrats on your 100,000th visitor!

  2. It is beautiful, what a gorgeous addition to your collection!

  3. thanks dd and bb! nice and warm scarf, perfect for the frosty weather right now!

  4. Beautiful shop.. and intimidating. I'd be caught red handed if I leave the store without a paper bag.

    Nice scarf.

  5. That is one handsome scarf. Surely befitting of its rightful owner. :) Greetings from Berlin, j!

  6. k: the store isn't intimidating at all, you don't get SAs following you around you can pretty much roam around. they're very friendly too

fm: thanks! enjoy berlin! wrap up warm and toasty!

  7. I've just discovered your blog, and I have to admit I've been gripped for about half an hour (when I should have been updating my blog instead).. you are one of the most insane consumers of luxury goods ever, I think you may well have a shopping *problem* but, so what, when the results are so fabulous?! I'm now lusting after Hermès orange soles in a big way.. I had no idea they did that on their shoes. Anyway, keep up the good blogging (and shopping!) --regards hapsical

  8. I'm not too fond of the newer margiela stores. The L.A. store I could deal with just because their SAs were honestly some of the most wonderful I have ever met and the interiors still felt like Margiela but this practically looks like D&G, but silver.

I don't want to be the person who says all corporate things are evil but when did Margiela actually start labeling things with their name...?

what's he wearing?
