alexander mcqueen spring summer 2008 flamingo print shirt

the flamingo print was used extensively in alexander mcqueen's spring summer 2008 show, decorating shirts as well as linings of the jackets (see top right pic, model had jacket tied to waist showing exquisite flamingo print lining). i really like the styling on the runway, the flamingo print shirts appeared in no less than 3 key looks from the runway, and was featured close to the end of the show.

is it easy to translate from catwalk to sidewalk? a slightly watered down version is available for sale on one of my favourite "outlet" sites, priced at GBP154, and with a further 15% discount if ordered before wednesday 11th. there is one last piece in my size!

& the back...

i really like this, especially so as it is slightly fitted around the waist to give some definition. but somehow i feel this has no longetivity. could be hard to pull off in real life, but i am thinking untucked shirt, cardigan, shorts, trainers/sandals.

  1. Get it!! I tried this on in Tokyo last year and it was exceedingly exquisite, save for the exorbitant price. In my opinion, the colors aren't too loud and you will be able to wear it easily in real life. I'm also thinking it'll look great with torn jeans and summer-ey loafers :)

  2. i don't like it
to me it seems like one of those Hawaiian flower shirts that ppl have, but it doesn't look good on anyone
i would possibly get the jacket w/the flamingos on the inside. but it's one of those things that i have to try on.
iono it's really up to you, your going to wear it

  3. This would be fabulous for a once or twice wearing. Maybe a party or a beach vacation? I don't think it is investment worthy.

  4. i LOVE this! it has that 70's retro look to it. i do have a couple vintage Hawaiian print shirts (short and cropped) i wear in summer and i can certainly see this one having longevity in my closet.

  5. I like it, but I won't have the guts to wear it out. The shirt is just too 'pretty'.

  6. You need a fashion intervention. Tough love. Don't do it.

Less Hawaii 5 00o00, and more like something Dexter would end up wearing after a tough night.

  8. hehe yea fashion intervention sounds divine.

i like this shirt, it's nice to have, but i don't see myself wearing it often i guess. and if i am having doubts about something then i shouldn't commit.

but i still like it. aww the great depression

  13. I just saw that on Yoox too.. strictly I was just doing my frequent look out for decent Raf Simons stuff (no luck), but you know how it is, couldn't resist checking out some of my other favourite designers..

Personally, I think people won't get it and they'll just think it's a cheapo Hawaiian shirt which would be a shame.

Just curious: how do you feel about shopping on Yoox? I always feel that the prices are far too high considering the age of the stuff and how totally unglamourous the shopping experience is. I always have an issue with 'mid price'.. I'd rather splash out on the real deal or else pick up PROPER bargins. Things often cost more on Yoox than they did when they were on sale in the department stores.

  14. hapsical: i agree with you on yoox. the prices are higher than what they were on sale previously. but it's great for scoring something which you might have missed 2 seasons ago.

i don't buy from yoox often, but a few pairs of shoes or the occasional sweaters, i usually pick up cheap bargains ha

  15. I agree I don't think it will last at all; reminds me of the late 90's early 00's black short sleeve with flames,,,, nooo bueno

  16. i dont like that the one of yoox dosnt have the print on the sleeves and hence makes it look shitier.
I would def buy if the yoox translation had the sleeve print.
