michael tonello "bringing home the birkin"

i got this for a friend's birthday way back in march, but didn't really want to post it then as her birthday's in may. she might just stumble upon it i thought! anyway, here's what i got for her:

wheeeee, i wish i am that generous to get something orange and in croc leather...

i got her the book that every seasoned fashionista seemed to have read: michael tonello's "bringing home the birkin", a light hearted read at his birkins conquest, and how he dispelled the myths of that fabled hermès bags waiting list.

i paid a little premium for a signed copy, in signature hermès orange ink no less!

and some excerpts from the book:

heh i got the same notebook too! whilst he used it to document his birkins purchases, i used it to document other french addresses and my monthly purchases!

now that i've given her the book, i want to source one for myself as i want to read it too!

i'm bringin home the bacon!

  1. cute cover. i remember watching an interview with the author and when asked how he was able to finance all of this he was rather mum on the topic.

  4. I saw an interview on some radio show in Toronto where the author said he financed his entire operation by taking out a bunch of credit cards. He was actually very open about the entire story. The radio show is posted on YouTube.

  7. Powerful illusion on the back. Until I had scrolled down to the other photos I thought you had bought your friend a real alligator skin Birkin.

Might actually buy the book next time a female friend has a birthday. It is one of those hobby books that even non-readers enjoy.

  14. Just wanted to add that the novel actually mentioned the hermes vintage sale in Artcurial on page 93. I thought that was very coincidental.
