"i died a hundred times. you go back to her & i go back to black"

went to h&m yesterday to have a look-see. that place has new stuff in all the time. i read somewhere that apparently they are so efficient, it takes 2 weeks from design board to manufacturing to shop floor. since they are a high volume low margin business, they need to constantly churn out new stuff on the shops to keep the customers coming back for more. the power of fast retailing.

i tried on a black organic cotton t-shirt with metallic and beading details. i think they're trying to emulate the look and feel from givenchy and balmain? try is the keyword. the t-shirt retails for £12.99.

it just doesn't feel quite right. it felt tacky so i put it back.

and i tried on a black shirt with rather nice beading details on the collar.

but i put the shirt back onto the shelves too. i love the detailing, but there's something about me and black shirts, i always feel and look like a bartender/waiter when i wear one. i was rather undecided, so i decided to walk away. the shirt retails for £29.99.

speaking of back to black, amy winehouse will be performing on tonight's "strictly come dancing" on bbc1. no she's not dancing but singing backup for her god daughter dionne bromfield, the first artiste she signed to her own record label. gosh i'll be channel hopping between bbc1 and itv's x-factor.

  1. I really wonder about the origins and ethics of the beading on the shirt. Can that really have been done by machine, or has it been done by small hands in the developing world?

  8. i don't think beads and sequins can be machine sewn though. the shirt's made in china, as with most of their other items.

anon01: these are from H&M man trend range, available in bigger H&M shops. try another branch!

  13. beading on men's wear will inevitably look tacky. i cant imagine wearing something with beads.
i think the art of it is nice, but it's certainly not something i'd wear proudly.
the black shirt looks sleek though. i like the covered placket
