my somewhat special ability to attract hackers/spammers

what's with me and hackers/spammers? first my credit card got hijacked and someone used it fraudulently to purchase airline tickets worth £1,000. i fought a battle with the credit card company to get my money back. then the blog got locked by blogger.com with suspicion of spamming activities. again i had to fight to get it unlocked. then yesterday the blog got infiltrated by comments by "hao". if you ticked the box to receive subsequent comments after leaving one, you would have received this spam comment.

then worst of all: an automated email was sent to EVERYONE in my gmail address book about some bogus computer site. everyone, including my previous employers, lawyers, friends, associates, everyone. how embarrassing.

give me a break please! i've changed my gmail passwords. and dig me a hole and bury me now!

*wails*

  4. Change them once a week, clear cache and history after every day or so...

But more importantly, I'm happy you're back intact and safe... the blog I mean.

  6. Welcome back! I think we all have to step up on changing passwords frequently. And joe, moderate the comments section now to avoid spam comments. In a way, you control what is left on each post and avoid having to retrack back all posts to erase spam comments.

Yes, you have your blog back now! woohoo!

  13. So glad the blog is back in action!! I was so worried for a sec.

Hackers are just the scum of the earth IMO. That's why I moderate my comments. It can't really prevent hackers, but it helps limit them so I guess it's a step in the right direction. As for e-mails. Try to find out the IP address of that the e-mail is coming from. Then if it's the same person leaving the comments on your blog, you can use a special site to block that ip address from your blog...It happened to me before :/
