valentine's day gift ideas for the boys

valentines day is a week away. if you haven't bought anything yet, online shopping is probably your answer. for those looking for gift ideas for the boys, here are a few of my picks (*ahem* or things i wouldn't mind receiving!)

diptyque RED is a limited edition candle that has been created in partnership with project (RED). (RED) is a programme set up to help fight AIDS in africa. for each candle sold €4 will be donated to help provide life-saving medication to those living with HIV in africa. how's that for scoring extra brownie points?

the candle is a combination of indian vanilla (vanilla scent with hints of balsamic and spice), madagascar vanilla (a tobacco-vanilla mix with hints of grass) and rooibos (a red bush tea). £38, available from

can't go wrong with a classic wallet and/or card holder for the guys. i love these deep brown buffalo leather wallet and card holder from spanish luxury house, loewe. according to the fantastic bagaholicboy, some of louis vuitton's small leather goods are made in loewe's factory in spain (they both fall under the same LVMH umbrella). hence expect high quality products made using the best materials around.

both the wallet and card holder are reduced in the sale. the card holder was £80, now £56, and the 8 slots wallet was £170, now £119. nothing wrong with getting something in the sale as a present. i won't tell if you don't...

i love orlebar brown's swim shorts, i think they are very flattering, very sexy and grown up. the shorts are made with quick dry material. so one can get out of the water, walk to the bar/restaurant and it would be dry by then. and these are smart enough to be seen in a dining establishment, try entering in your speedos! am looking forward to wearing mine when i hit the beach at bali in march. yes, soon!

these limited edition ones in collaboration with monocle magazine, retails for £125 and is available online here. this classic "bridge" shorts should be of a flattering length (ie, not short shorts like ronaldos...)

and if you're getting the shorts, throw in a copy of monocle magazine as well. in my humble opinion, i think it's one of the better ones out there. always a fantastic read.

and speaking of monocle magazine's collaborations, i love Love LOVE this bag which they did with belgian luxury goods makers, delvaux. i love their newspaper bag, and this variation with the textured leather just takes my breathe away. shower your loved ones with something you don't see often on the streets.

the monocle x delvaux newspaper bag retails for £1,500, available online here.

and if the newspaper bag is out of budget, how about the delightful printed holdall from paul smith? the holdall is their classic item which gets reinterpreted every season. i think it's fun, practical and tasteful. available for £238 from

clothing can be a difficult thing to buy unless you know his measurements. so knitwear should be a safe option. i really like this 3.1 phillip lim cashmere sweater. simple, stylish and keeps us toasty. *ahem* i am a size medium hehe!

for those willing to splash out, a timepiece is forever. the 18ct rose gold omega deville has been on my wishlist (right side of blog) for a long time. i love the combination of the soft rose gold frame with the toughness of the crocodile leather strap. the watch retails for £4,000, but here's a good deal: they are offering interest free 3 year credit. so one would pay £400 up front, and thereafter £100 monthly for 3 years. i think it's a fantastic way to get the watch, i am seriously considering so myself.

and if the omega watch seems too pricey, i think the longines 18ct gold prestige watch is another good option. i love the classic and timeless style. the watch retails for £1,000. pay £100 up front, and £25 thereafter for 3 years. i really do think the interest free option is great, although that's also partly why we are in this economic mess too.

so hope that helps. spare a thought for me when you guys are all cosy on that day. i should be slouching in front of the tele with a big tub of ben & jerry's.
