Sjaak Hullekes Spring Summer 2011

the spring summer 2011 menswear shows have commenced in florence, and will move to milan today. for the very first post on spring 2011, i am very pleased to feature dutch designer sjaak hullekes's collection, entitled "harvest home".

his previous collection "small town boy" personifies the inner child in us, the boy with innocence in his eyes but harbouring big city dreams. this collection brings the character back from the city. the small town boy travelled on his vintage motorcycle, through the golden cornfields, along blooming lavender. he is on the way to his favourite abandoned beach, where he can smell the heath of the day and the salt from the sea.

photographer joost vandebrug created these amazing pictures which referenced hullekes's theme of 60's nostalgia. the dreamy movie stills-like pictures create a fantastic mood board. i love the whole theme and feel of it. it really leaves me wanting for more.

i had great pleasure in meeting sjaak and his team in milan back in january. a small town boy like me trying to fit in with the other heavy weights in the factory of dreams, i could really relate to that collection. i feel that sjaak is taking his time to hone his craft. his clothes are nicely executed. he has a story to tell through his collections, a vision to see it through. i am confident big things await him, and i am so glad to have met him and be introduced to his collections right from the beginning.

i am hopeful that he will get an online stocklist soon. i for one, will be very keen.

really loving the whole mood, romantism and story board of sjaak hullekes's spring 2011 collection. great start to the season.
