Tilda Swinton for Pringle Of Scotland menswear Fall Winter 2010 campaign

tilda swinton for pringle of scotland menswear fall winter 2010 / ph: ryan mcginley

tilda swinton returned to front both the menswear and womenswear campaign for pringle of scotland fall winter 2010. similar to the previous season, the campaign was shot in scotland by one of my favourite photographers, ryan mcginley. much as i love tilda, i am a bit on the fence about her fronting the menswear campaign. any thoughts?

and a separate bit of trivial about above model ryan koning: he served in the army for 6 years and was deployed to iraq from october 2005 to october 2006. besides being an excellent tennis player in high school, ryan also writes instrumental pieces for movies and performs regularly at 'bitter end' and 'ella lounge' in new york city.

the next time we think models are just pretty wallflowers we should so think again.

  1. i believe tilda swinton is one of the best actresses in film and has one of the most enchanting faces ever. she looks great in menswear but i don't think i will buy something because it's worn by an androgynous celebrity. seeing her in those clothes interests me but it doesn't compel me to like them.

  3. I like it. She has an 'edge'. Taking into consideration that McGinley's picture is a stills shot and the ryan koning shot is a catwalk picture, I still feel as though Tilda wears the outfit better. I think Tilda adopts quite a masculine pose which also obviously helps.

  4. I have to say I like it. It might be the uber-Tilda fan in me speaking but it just lends another dimension to the campaign. It makes you think twice about what you're seeing. And besides, with Tilda fronting the women's campaign, having a different model for the men's, famous or just a model, would overshadow the men's campaign. I think it makes sense to have Tilda do both. :)

  5. A little unusual. She is obviously androgynous, but I'm not sure it will encourage men to buy the products.

  6. I dressed Ryan at a fashion show last NYC Spring Fashion week. He's super cool and down to earth.

  8. Well, I like it. The boundaries between menswear and womenswear are blurring so why not. Although if I was a guy I might think differently.

  10. I find her face very haunting and although I'm not entirely sold on her doing menswear, you do have to admit that there is something noteworthy about it. Perhaps it's also haunting as well.
