Raf Simons archive pieces: LN-CC v YOOX

last month, i did a little feature on new store "ln-cc", and featured one of the first bags from the raf simons x eastpak project. the bag was part of the raf simons archive series which ln-cc so amazingly curated. however i noted that some of the earlier pieces circa 2009, were still available for purchase at yoox.com. similar to theoutnet.com, yoox stocks a mind boggling selection of past season items. as those are considered past season items, yoox discounted the prices, the raf simons pieces included.

ln-cc however took a different approach. as these items were from the past and archive series, it is difficult to get hold of, so prices were more expensive than it's original retail prices. true to an extent, some of the pieces before 2008 were indeed difficult to track down now. but which pieces appeared in both online stores, and what were the huge disparities in prices?

the long wool tailored coat with neoprene (diving suit material) sleeves was one of the most prominent pieces from raf simons fall winter 2009. ln-cc has one piece available for £3,000, while yoox also has the exact same piece available at £569. ironically, both were of the same size and color.

the coat from ln-cc was 'gently worn', whereas the one on yoox is brand new with tags.

another item that was a big feature in raf simons' fall winter 2009 collection, were the neon striped trainers. these were quite an acquired taste, and i believed stocklists were pretty rare.

ln-cc has a pair in size 11 from their archive series, retailing for £500. yoox has the exact same shoes from sizes 7 through to 11, at £109.

wonders never cease. i also managed to find the exact same black cotton biker jacket from spring summer 2006 in both stores. the piece from ln-cc retails for £2,000 while the one from yoox retails for £418.

the most expensive item within ln-cc's raf simons archive series, is the above black parachute cotton jacket from spring summer 2003. the jacket is covered with multiple pockets, compartments, straps, fastenings and zips in varying sizes over the whole body and sleeves. this piece retails for a whopping £10,000.

while i couldn't find the exact same black parachute jacket, i did see a rather similar brown zipped jacket, which prompted me to believe it is from the same collection or thereabouts. the raf simons brown cotton straps jacket from yoox retails for £372.

i really really like ln-cc's concept, and their idea of curating the archive pieces from one of the most critically acclaimed designers. honestly i do find great joy going through each and very piece, and i urge you to have a look too. it's like a really good raf simons retrospective, and maybe the prices were set really high so that the pieces can remain in the museum-like archives of ln-cc for us to enjoy. and it would be great for the buyers at ln-cc to perhaps pick up some of the pieces at yoox to add to their archive.

  1. yes me and my friends noticed this too. I agree with literally everything you're saying, it just can't be justified when the same pieces are actually affordable elsewhere. I hope they do get some incredible archive and vintage pieces soon.

  2. You guys are missing the point of what LN-CC are trying to do. They are presenting the archive as a private collection, the same as an art gallery would do so. It would be completely foolish to sell off those pieces that have been collected over the years at a throw away price, thus breaking up the collection. I know if i had a collection like that i would be asking top £££'s for it!!!

  5. That's ridiculous. 10,000£ for a cotton jacket, that's probably the fabric cost for the whole collection.
