Emporio Armani Spring Summer 2012 campaign versus Prada Spring Summer 2010 campaign

emporio armani released images of their spring summer 2012 ad campaign today. lensed by alasdair mclellan in hong kong, the iconic signboards formed a beautiful backdrop for the black and white shots. love the images, but no doubt prada's spring summer 2010 campaign springs to mind (pun intended). also shot in black and white against the strangely deserted streets, yang fudong shot prada's campaign in shanghai. perhaps with that added authenticity of bygone-era styling and use of asian models, i actually preferred prada's campaign. no doubt asia is where the money is right now, we are seeing more collections with asian influences, sizes coming down to fit the traditionally more petite, and ad campaigns shot in the far east. i have nothing against that, in fact happy that fashion is recognising diversity.

  1. Prada was so much better! I remember those shots and how they convinced me (aged 14) that I absolutely NEEDED a Prada tweed jacket! lol #nevergonnahappen Shame I never saw the film.

  2. yup, Prada's campaign is 300% better.

  3. They're both such creative shoots.

  4. That Armani campaign has a strange, dated (though beautifully shot) feel - Western tourist male models, Oriental female models - not pushing too many boundaries! For all the discussion about the rise of the Asian supermodels, often seems to be pretty much a ladies-only phenomenon . . .

  5. strangely enough, emporio armani is one of the first to use an asian male model for their global campaign. japanese/taiwanese artiste takeshi kaneshiro fronted their international ad campaign a few years back.

takes a little time i think...

  6. Very good article!!! thank's a lot
