Jonathan Howard in Alexander McQueen - 'Thor: The Dark World' premiere, London

00o00 menswear blog: Jonathan Howard in Alexander McQueen - 'Thor: The Dark World' premiere, London
Jonathan Howard / Alexander McQueen

Jonathan Howard attended the world premiere of "Thor: The Dark World" at Odeon Leicester Square on October 22, 2013 in London. The British actor, who played Sam Thawley in the hit TV series Downton Abbey, also appear in the Marvel film as Ian Boothby (what will I be without Wikipedia?). Jonathan wore a black shoulder suit from Alexander McQueen, over a white dress shirt also from the same label. Love the single black button showing on his crisp white shirt, I thought he looked really good and the suit fitted really well. I would pick a different pair of shoes though.

On a personal note, I have a black tie event in three weeks and I think that is the look I will be going for. I'll wear my black suit with a crisp white shirt, buttoned all the way and sans tie. It's an easy way to look smart, economical for the wardrobe and yet respect the dress code, without going all va-va-voom ala Tom Hiddleston at the same premiere. To prevent myself from being mistaken as a waiter for the night, I'll probably throw in a silk scarf and wear my velvet slippers. Hate black tie events personally, but hey if you are single you have to mingle.

  1. it's called "black tie" event, not "sans tie". it just looks sloppy

    1. there's nothing sloppy about the above look which I will try to recreate. turning up in a t-shirt and jeans with a black tie is sloppy despite observing the rules.

  2. i disagree.
and also a movie premiere is not a black tie event, it is an evening affair for which you are expected to dress up. not the same. if your invitation says "black tie" wear a tie dammit! other than that keep up the good work.

  3. Do you think it is okay to wear the Lanvin X H&M blue shoes with an all-black suit?

    1. i normally stick to black shoes with black trousers but lately i've been thinking of wearing my blue velvet shoes with a black suit. create a matching item, lapel pin or pocket square.

      confidence makes everything work.

  4. I live in Glasgow and I will attend an oath taking citizenship ceremony in December but I still cannot decide what suit and where to buy. Can you suggest any shops (or online) that sell affordable 2/3 piece suits? Obviously some high street brands are way beyond out of my reach. Thanks X
