Nike celebrated the capsule collection by Riccardo Tisci this week with a party at 151 Wooster in New York City, the pop-up space where the shoes will go on sale this weekend. Several artistes attended the event, including Riccardo Tisci above, in a khaki bomber jacket from Givenchy Fall Winter 2014. He wore the much coveted Nike + R.T. Air Force 1 of course.

The khaki bomber jacket was slightly different to the one presented on the runway. Although I could not find an exact match, we can be pretty sure that was from the same collection as it bears the similar hallmarks. The interesting thing to note about the sneakers collaboration: this is branded as "Nike x R.T.", not Nike x Givenchy. Not that it will dull any fanfare, but I feel most traditional fashion houses will try to shun that, for most do not want the Creative Directors to be bigger than the fashion house itself (if it makes sense). Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci Fall Winter 2014 is full of basketball references, no doubt to bring the fashion collection closer to the Nike x R.T. project. Nike has to be the biggest winner here, but just an odd observation.

A little history about the Nike Air Force 1: This was the first basketball shoe to use the Nike Air technology. The name is a reference to Air Force One, the plane that carries the President of the United States. The shoes are sold in three different styles, low, mid and high. The Air Force 1 was produced in 1982 and discontinued the following year. It was re-released in 1986 with the modern italic Nike logo with a Swoosh on the bottom on the back of the shoe. (what can we do without Wikipedia)

So, are you excited about the Nike x R.T. collection? I do love my sneakers, but wouldn't class myself as a sneakerhead. I love the retro looking stripes against the white body, will have to hunt down a pair in London if I could. Meanwhile, here are a few Nike Air Force 1, anything caught your fancy?
