Sotherby's in London will be auctioning 15 paintings by LS Lowry from The A.J. Thompson Collection on 25 March 2014. I am no art buff myself, but I love the whimsical and colourful paintings from Lowry. Most of his paintings included people scurrying around in the foreground, and if I remembered correctly, it was these beautiful paintings that inspired Burberry Prorsum Fall Winter 2008, one of my favourite collections to date.

Per Sotheby's: One of the most remarkable aspects of the A.J. Thompson’s collection is that it contains both of Lowry’s only known depictions of London’s iconic and instantly recognisable landmark, Piccadilly Circus, offering us a rare glimpse into the artist’s relationship with Britain’s capital city. This unusual subject matter, combined with Lowry’s distinctive clarity of vision, makes these paintings compelling and important.

When the Burberry Prorsum Fall Winter 2008 collection was shown, my first reaction was "flared trousers". It remained one of my favourite collections to date, with the romantic fallen leaves, the gorgeous textures, and the lurid colours and shapes referencing back to Lowry's paintings. Fashion that referenced art, and art that imitated life. It was because of this collection, that I went to see the Lowry exhibition at The Tate Museum late last year. Influences and references going full circles here.

And like what Banksy said, we exit through the gift shop. I could not afford any of the Lowry paintings  from the upcoming Sotherby's auction, but I bought these coasters from The Tate Museum. Yes, not quite the same, but it sits beautifully in front of my computer and yes, I love browsing the museum shops. Is there a point to this blog post? Not really, just thinking about thinking.
