Amazon has recently launched its Fall Winter 2014 Coat Edit, a hand selected edit of its key outerwear pieces for the season from brands including Boss Orange, Tommy Hilfiger, French Connection, Levi’s and many more. The edit features approximately 500 men’s coats and 500 women’s coats, all sold directly by Amazon.co.uk. Amazon Fashion’s in-house stylist curated the edit and the menswear collection includes lightweight parkas and leather bikers to winter wools and pea coats.
I had the chance to visit the Amazon UK headquarters last week to look at some of the key pieces. To be honest, it is no different to perusing the clothing rails at a departmental store. For you at home, the experience would be the same as shopping from a reputable online shop. I admit, I have never shopped for fashion from Amazon until this point. It is usually books and other peripherals, but with Amazon's incredible economy of scale, their focus on fashion now would be very interesting to watch.
I ordered a beautiful long grey coat from French Connection on Friday morning, and the familiar brown parcel was delivered to me on Saturday. For a company with such a vast selection of inventory to offer next day delivery is seriously incredible. Case in point: in the last week of November 2013, Amazon.co.uk announced that they had taken orders for more than a million items of clothing and shoes in one week. This is what I meant by their vast economy of scale and efficiency, and you still get your familiar perks of shopping on Amazon, like the ease of returns or speaking to customer services, adding to your wishlist etc.
The familiar brown Amazon box, delivered the day after I placed my order. Not delivered by a drone though, that would have been very exciting. Delivered by a friendly courier no less.
The coat I ordered, just as I expected.
I opted for a classic grey wool coat with micro check details, which is perfect for the sudden drop in temperature in London now. I was offered a complimentary gift card from Amazon.co.uk to try their fashion range. The experience is in fact no different to my previous purchase on Amazon.co.uk (heel protector stickers, don't ask). I am familiar with the range and cuts of French Connection clothing, and I received what I ordered promptly, without the usual hassle of going to the high street. Nothing to fault, and all is good really.
